Right i jus wanna get this cleared up, ive heard so many different views on this that i myself dnt know where the scene is goin.sometimes i think its goin in the right direction and moving forward bt then u see the same names on the flyers and u think is this the way forward......
I think not
If the scene is to move forward the promoters need to get new unfound talent on the flyers(me lol)otherwise i can see peolpe in maybe 5-10 yrs time goin off dnb because promoters aint doin it for the music, they r doin it for bigger wedge in there pocket and that dissapoints me coz we pay there wages.uve all probly had this discussion b4 but be free to answer again.
One last little thing,do u think wat pendulum r doing by releasing tunes commercially is gd for the scene or bad?
safe peeps

interesting. I like your discussions.
I personaly think the scenes awsome right now. There are so many new artists right now all making awsome tunes. It just keeps getting better and better. I persoanly feel that this is the last years of the DnB superstar. Gone are the days of Andy C getting paid a grand a gig. now he gets paid less as most of the dj's do.
The thing is we are comming to a change right now. Music is going digital. With the increase of DnB available on the net the whole 'super label' thing and Superestar DJ will go. Either that or you will still have Micky Finn playing the 39th version of badass in 2 years time to the 'mainstream' but the real sounds will as always be 'underground'.
UKBASSradio is the finest example of that. " years ago there were fauck all DnB online radio stations. Now Ukbass is a serious radio station with an awsome array of talented dj's, mc's and producers with in my opinion one of the best communities on the net. Everyones great
who's to say that in 2/3 years time UKBASSRADIO isnt as big as DnB arena? It just needs commitment and hard work by all concerned. We have to make our own here cos groove rider aint gonna pop round for tea and give us a deal widdout work and phat tunes.
I think the scene may split. there will be ya mainstream pendulum stuff , mainstream DJ's ect for the 'mainstream' dnb week end part timers. Then there will be ya dedicated underground DnB scene, closer to what dnb has always been like. raw and on a street level.
To be honest i'm not into pendulum but if radio one wanna play my tunes (available soon ) then wicked I think the scene better badder than ever and as long as the bass stays phat, production crisp n beats rinsin then to infinity and beyond we go ......
Peace

"If the scene is to move forward the promoters need to get new unfound talent on the flyers"
- You may get some slots, but really you need to be found, since unfound talent is by its nature unknown to promoters....and more importantly the public. Remember that before 'Vault' Pendulum were unfound talent and so forth.
"otherwise i can see peolpe in maybe 5-10 yrs time goin off dnb because promoters aint doin it"
- depends if ur still into dnb in 5-10 yrs. If ur into it then u will be into it. 5-10 years ago a lot of the big names now didn't appear anywhere. No one had heard of them. I'm sure there will be a whole host of new names within 5-10 years, but established artists aren't going to just go away, would u?
"promoters aint doin it for the music, they r doin it for bigger wedge in there pocket and that dissapoints me coz we pay there wages"
- For every successful rave 10 or 20 go down the pan. For every successful club night probably 100s fail. To put on a rave or run a club costs a lot of money and time and effort. If you were to wade through mountains of red tape, put grands and grands into it wouldn't u want to make sure some people turned up and try to recoup and hopefully earn a crust? Unfound djs will not fill the place up. Some promoters go on to be successful, a lot end up very broke.
"One last little thing,do u think wat pendulum r doing by releasing tunes commercially is gd for the scene or bad?"
- Anyone who has ever had a full record release has done so commercially, even peeps who sell downloads do so commercially. Commerce = trade = selling a product. Admittidly breakbeat kaos go a bit OTT with certain things like picture discs and the way they release tunes (like leaving pendulums best 2 tunes off the album so fans have to buy the separate 12s) but hey, the kids love it - nice ornaments. Vinyl is dying and the sudden qabundance of picture discs etc is the vinyl industry making collectors items and trying to keep peeps onboard. Most people on our scene are so hooked on the old vinyl myth of superiority that they won't try new technologies anyway.
One other thing to point out might be that Andy C released '31 seconds' commercially when he was 16 years old. Not only that but it is the highest selling jungle tune of all time - was that commercial release etc bad for the scene?
Things flow and evolve and morph and change - thats one thing you can be sure of.
