trying to learn the dark art of 'tig welding'...



Burnt weld is the start...
east/west weld is the eureeka moment..
north/south welds are trying to refine the basics...

SORRY for massive pic's-technumpty 'ere STILL cant resize properly....

Nice swirl. Love that feeling of laying in a nice bead... I know that Eureka! moment you speak of - that point where you discover that you gotta watch the puddle and not the arc... Just a tiny tiny motion of your wrist to work that pool back and forth...YEAH! Nice going Very Happy

I can MIG but wouldn't know TIG from a hole in the ground... I would guess it's a wire-feed arrangement by those dimples at the ends of the beads?

Everyone I ask gives me a different description of TIG - ranging from a wire-feed arc weld situation with inert gas (sounds like MIG to me) to a foot-pedal-controlled flame weld adding material from a seperate stick....

WTF is TIG then?

i'm on foot pedal controled flame +stick set up. learning to weld up severe kerb damage on alloy wheels....
