 wkd spot againHeyho! That is the Bunker "Flandernbunker" in Kiel. The bunker provided shelter to the navy soldiers and civilian population during World War II bomb raids. Today the Flandernbunker is also a place for historical exhibits, and guided visits (my job). Because of its status as a naval port and as production site for warships (Bismarck for example) and submarines, Kiel was heavily bombed by the Allies during the war; it is estimated that 80% of the remaining old town, 72% of the residential areas, and 83% of the industrial areas were destroyed. My city is full of bunkers. The biggest one was the "kilian-Bunker" for submarines:  _________________  |
