UK Bass Radio Newsletter: Mar 2007
Ez all Ukbass Krew! It’s that time of the month again. More news and events from your favourite DNB site.
It’s been a busy month for the site as Overload has been putting the finishing touches to new look the site. I’m sure you will all agree that the new look is fantastic. The face lift has given the site a fresh look and the chatroom has been modified to reduce the lag and crashes.
We’ve also seen an influx of new talent on the site. As more and more people get to hear about us, DJs wanna step up and represent for UK Bass Radio.
New Djs include T-Base, Philly-B, Fada and Tribe.
Also, this month, we have been nominated for the Best DnB Website on the BBC Radio 1, 1XTRA Drum and Bass Awards. There is a feature on this later on in the newsletter.
Don’t forget that any up and coming events or Birthdays, etc... can be put in the newsletter so get busy and send em in.
Peace, CQB
Name: Terraformer
Location: Colchester, Essex
Genre: All Drum & Bass
Show Time: Saturdays 10pm – 1am
Terraformer started mixing back in 1997 playing funky house and trance in a local club. In 1999 he moved into deeper styles of dance music in the form of tech & deeper house. In around 2000 he began integrating drum n’ bass tunes into his sets. After playing more regularly at clubs and parties, Terraformer had found his forte - pure drum n’ bass.
DJ Terraformer's style has since developed into mostly the harder and darker side of d n’ b although he generally plays whatever drum and bass he enjoys. His mixing styles are unusual as he integrates elements of techno & house mixing and has developed his own specially developed techniques. His mixing is often seamless and rapid, the tune selection hard and heavy. In 2003, DJ Terraformer launched Bassknights with fellow deejays Tonyx & Onslaught. He has played frequently at the Nastybeatz/Freedom Parties in Southampton, live gigs outside at various events, and several years’ club experience from 1997-2000
In around 2004 Terraformer began making music again in the form of dark-jump up and liquid drum n bass, with early tunes that received positive feedback and internet radio playtime, such as Red Mist and Pit of Snakes. More recently he has been working with the German band 'Nude' and his remix of 'Moon' is featured on their Beatport-released EP on Wohnton Musik. Production wise he has been influenced by the work of artists such as Blame, Nero, Noisia, Sub Focus, Dillinja, Funk D'Void, Leftfield and many others.
Now in 2006 Terraformer has finished around 30 tracks (and more under various pseudonyms). Look out for his 2 new EPs, the Iron Curtain EP (darker harder sound) and the Velvet Curtain EP (deeper liquid vibes) and also a stack of remixes. In the future his ambitions are to get his tracks played at a big rave by a top DJ, and to release a track on vinyl in the UK.
Terraformer plays (almost) every Saturday night on UKBass, with guest DJs Onslaught and Tonyx, and guest MC RC Stylee. We usually cover most styles of DnB and look out for a few world exclusive productions.
Shout outs to all the UKB, Lifeplus, Reputation, Destroyer, MayhemDnB families and all the Colchester DnB heads.

Ez all,
I started mixing about 10 years ago and back then I was into my hard house and Nu Energy but as I got older my tastes changed and I have been mixing DnB since. I have always been into the Dance/Rave scene started listening to Fantazia/Dreamscape tapes and it has progressed from there.
Some of my favourite producers are:
John B
Resonant Evil / Audio
Aphrodite
Kryptic Mindz / Leon Switch
Black Sun Empire
Break
Noisia
G Dub
Seba + Paradox
Calyx
and many more.
My style of mixing is clean mixes with a bit of chopping (not too much)and I try to play a variety of genres in my sets.
I have had a couple of sets out (not enough tho )and have also mixed on a few Internet radio stations over the past few years.
Big up all the UKB Kru and keep it locked
Peace.

The 1st BBC 1XTRA Drum and Bass Awards 2007
Sunday March 11th saw the very first Drum and Bass Awards from Radio 1s, 1xtra. With headlining acts like Jenna G, Ben Westbeech and Clipz + Die, we knew we were in for a Monster of an evening.
Tickets were in the form of leather wristbands with either GUEST or VIP inscribed on them. “No wristband? No entry!” was the message that came with the invitation. Yeh like we were gonna forget them.
Due to the late arrival of my own, I couldn’t make it to the event so Fat Barry and Techy Rabbz ended up going using my wristbands and I believe Overload had a couple spare who he gave to some of the other Djs on the site. All those plus many others from the site headed to the Neighbourhood Club, Ladbroke Grove, West London faster than a Scotsman running to the pub with a money off voucher!
UK Bass Radio was up for the Best UK Drum and Bass Website. With the competition as DnB Arena and Dogs On Acid, the race was on.
The fact that we got nominated for this award, and that we are a fairly young website, shows the dedication and hard work that goes into running the site as well as the 110% effort that the DJs / Mcs give week in week out. So no matter what the result was gonna be, we all knew that our hard work had been recognised by the listeners from around the world. That in itself is a MASSIVE achievement. So I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you that voted for the site. We will be giving you much more this next year coming.
DnB Arena won the Award, but I’m sure it would be safe to say that it was a close one
Having spoken to a few of the guys who went, it was an absolutely stonker of a night out. With some of them even going to the after party.
Some photos of the night can be found on the 1xtra website using this link :
