UK Bass Radio Newsletter: Feb 2007
Ez all. Time for another Ukbassradio update. Last month seen the first edition in a while and we have had some very good positive feedback. More ideas have come forward so we’ll be seeing how they go.
Also at the end of January saw the charity night at the Zeb Bar, Southampton. All in all it was a wicked night enjoyed by all except the management, ha ha, who tried to shut us off really early and kept insisting we turn it down. But all the Djs and Mcs persevered to raise more than £180 for Vitalise.
Massive shouts go to all the DJs, MCs, supporters and of course the organizer Amy.
This month sees Freedom, Romsey on the 17th Feb. This is an invite only event and u must register with Nastybeatz website to receive your invitation. It takes less than 2 minutes and will allow you access to all Freedom events.
Gotta give a massive shout to Adge Dub who is debuting on the site in the very near future. Big up m8. Keep it locked for that one.
Don’t forget if you have some input or feedback for the newsletter or for UKBASSRADIO.CO.UK then contact me on the link below.
Peace, CQB
Profile
DJ NAME: Fat Barry
LOCATION: Southampton
STYLES: Liquid DnB
SHOW TIME: Thursdays 10pm - 12am GMT
DJ Fat Barry first began to listen to Jungle Drum & Bass back in 1994 after being given a copy of a DJ CJ (UnitedMindz) mix tape. He played the tape to death and then he heard an LTJ Bukem set on Radio 1's Essential Selection late one Saturday night. Fat Barry was instantly drawn to the Liquid style of such artists. He bought most of the Earth, Logical Progression and Progression Sessions CD's and discovered tracks by Makoto and various other DJ's.
He was re-introduced to UKBASSRADIO.co.uk and the DnB scene by a good friend of his at the beginning of 2005. After hearing of a free local party (FREEDOM) organized by NastyBeatz.co.uk on UKBASSRADIO, he went and had a WIKID time catching up with old friends and making new ones in the process.
He couldn't resist the temptation of buying some decks and having a go himself. He bought his Technics 1200's in July 2005 and was voted in to play on UKBASSRADIO.co.uk at the end of October (2005).
DJ Fat Barry currently presents LIQUIDation Live on Thursday nights from 10pm (GMT) till late and fills in whenever he can because he enjoys playing live so much. His fiancée Sexy Bex joins him on Thursdays as his MC and together they have built up a highly praised atmospheric show.

DJ NAME: DJ Psycho - 666
LOCATION: Luton, United Kingdom
STYLES: DNB / Hard House
SHOW TIME: Friday 4pm -5pm GMT
Psycho gained his interest in music from listening to hundreds of Jungle and Old Skool hardcore mix tapes in the early nineties. From there for no specific reason he gained interest in House music, learning to mix and starting his DJ career with Vocal House gradually working up to the Harder House styles.
After mixing for 3 weeks he started playing at various private house parties in his local area gaining recognition in his locality. Moving on from house parties he and his associates created Rum Terra Sound Systems which unfortunately didn’t work out due to Police confiscating the Rig.
From Terra Sound Systems, Revalation was born creating a powerful 50K Turbo Sound system. The Sound system was used for many underground Raves until an incident occurred which resulted in the members of Revalation going separate ways.
Psycho then turned his attention from sound systems to radio, playing regularly for a Adrenalin FM whilst still moving the crowds at various local House parties. Eventually Psycho helped run Adrenalin FM, where the risks involved got to the point it was no longer viable for him to continue.
Leaving Adrenalin FM, Psycho signed up with a leading Drum & Bass net station where he helped with the admin side of things, at some points completely running things. He left for various reasons and now has put his ambitions of creating a unique station for all styles into practice - Viva la Bassjunkees.

Zeb Bar, Southampton, Jan 27th 2007
“Boxed In” at the Zeb Bar was a night organised to raise money in aid of a charity called Vitalise. The organiser, Amy, had asked some of the DJs and MCs from Ukbass to come and play on the night to show some support. The line up from the station was, Fat Barry, Catch, Sparkee, CQB, CJ and Kalaish.
The music catered for everyone and was from Liquid, thru Hard DnB, thru Jump up and Ragga Jungle.
Amy would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all who came and donated for Vitalise. The money will be very well spent (£185).
Below are some pictures of the night. More will be up on the website as soon as I get round to it.

FEATURE: ABUSE (MONO&STRICT)
Ez UKBASS massive. This month we got a special feature to welcome some new talent onto the site. Abuse, aka Strict and Mono, have had a great start to their regular slots and im sure will continue to impress on the site for 2007 and beyond. Big up Abuse and welcome to UKBASSRADIO.
Drum&Bass DJ Collaboration from North London, debuted on UKBass Radio on the break of the New Year, and within their first month created a “Buzz” on the station and have started to already build quite a nice following. To celebrate the success of the two weekly shows Monday & Wednesday 4pm, Mono & Strict are hosting 2 special live broadcasts from Wales, introducing guests DJ Hectik and the Trill Crew, DJ Charge from the Aspire Label which Mono is currently recording for, and teaming up with the Umbillacord DJ with guest MCs 4Dee & Joe blow. Full information, show times and line-ups please visit the just finished Abuse website @ http://www.abusednb.com – Watch out for these 2 in the coming months.
Before the lads head over to Wales, UKBass’ very own CQB caught up with Mono to round up a few questions about the ABUSE project for this feature. See how it went down;
CQB: Ez Mono, Welcome to UkBassRadio, Please tell me, what is ABUSE?
Mono: Alright mate, ABUSE is the brand new project I am working on right now, alongside partner DJ Strict. We tend to play with more than 2 decks, to create more hype in the mix, plans to use 2 mixers for precise Queuing is in the pipelines too. (Something just a little different from the usual) We will be doing this while in Wales for the little abuse mini tour – make sure you check that out!
CQB: How long has ABUSE been established?
Mono: We were introduced by a mutual friend (Peter Pan) at some point in December 06, had a chance to experiment about as a DJ collaboration, and by The end of the month, came to know each others styles and decided to make it an ongoing thing.
CQB: How long have u been into mixing and drum and bass?
Mono: Professionally/Seriously I started DJing for a purpose in 2005, upgraded the DJ setup and started collection tunes regularly and have not looked back since. I believe Strict has been buying and mixing Drum&Bass since 98 (He’s got a killa collection!)
CQB: What would u describe your DnB style as?
Mono: If you want to go into the category side of things, id say we pretty much cover the full spectrum. Dark/Tech-step, Liquid/Fast-Soul, Jumpup & Dancefloor are the 3 main areas we specialise in, as we believe we need to aim at a wider audience, instead of sticking to one small portion of the sound. We would play specific sets if required, but we use the radio show to pump out the latest big tunes from the whole Drum&Bass scene.
CQB: Do u play/mix/listen to other styles of music?
Mono: I do own a small collection of breaks tunes which I don’t really have time to mix up, but do enjoy it as a break from the charged up energy driven Drum&Bass I play week in week out, and like any other human, I listen to everything, nice for inspiration and to escape from the norm.
CQB: Where did u come up with the name ABUSE your DJ names?
Mono: Abuse – hah! Well once we were ready to put the operation on the road, we needed a name, we both What would u say was yoursat down for a while, scribbling ideas and going in circles. And as I am quite a darkside kinda guy, I threw the anme ABUSE up in the air, and Strict loved it, so it stuck from there. Mono, funny you should ask, I was speaking to someone to day about the simplicity of my name today, it came out of nowhere, just jotting down while in the studio one day. The name Strict, possibly because he is precise with his mix and blends? Will have to ask him yourself!
CQB: Who are your favourite artists and labels?
Mono: Favouritism! Limewax is putting out a lot of very well produced Drum&Bass with a real dark sound, he has to go on my Top list alongside Logistics, last year hit us all with a whole load of very big 12s EPs and the LP. Labels, I don’t have favourite labels, I play something if I like it and think it will go down well.
CQB: What would u say was your defining moment of 2006?
Mono: The sudden formation of Abuse, its been tough but fun, and are really enjoying the support and respect we have been given. That’s gotta be the highlight of last year, even if that was within the last 2 weeks of the year!
CQB: Have you got any events or short term plans at the moment?
Mono: Unfortunately we have not been booked as of yet, but to be honest would like some more time to master our collaboration skills just so we can be spot on at any events. We are doing a mini radio tour in Wales end of Feb as you are probably aware of, which should go down pretty well. Other than that just the radio shows at the moment.
CQB: Thanks for your time, have you anything you would like to say to the UKBass Radio fans?
Mono: Yes, sure, thanks a lot for the support given throughout the past month and a half, big respect to Overload for putting us here, April & Minxy from the UKB chat for keeping it nice and busy. All of our regular listeners (you know who you are) a cheeky shout to my man Charge trying to get the Aspire label together with me (should be fun) big up’s to my DJ partner Strict and not forgetting a massive shout to yourself CQB. Nice one. Do not forget to add out MySpace and get involved on our brand new website ( www.myspace.com/abusednb & www.abusednb.com )

UK BASS RADIO PROBLEM PAGE
With Aunt Rebecca & Dr Mark Sloan m.d

Dear Aunt Rebecca, I have a small penis and it makes me very embarrassed in the showers, when I am around other men at the gym. I feel they are looking at me and laughing. I am only 2 inches when erect and I have never had a girlfriend, is there anything I can do apart from paying for surgical enhancement?
Stubby, 29, E. London
Aunt Rebecca says: Hi Stubby, You are not alone, many men are not happy with the size of their penis. There are, however, a few things you can try to make the penis appear larger. Firstly, try and lose some pounds, as weight loss from the genital area will make the penis appear longer. Secondly, try a penis pump, available in sex shops and online stores. Regular use will elongate the penis, not by a huge amount, but just enough to make you feel slightly more confident in the showers. Surgical Enhancement is not a good idea, it is expensive and risky, you need to begin to love yourself and your penis and the girls will come running, Love Aunt Rebecca xx
Dear Dr Sloan, I have recently split from my boyfriend and I have been feeling very down and depressed. Am I just being stupid? To top it all off, he’s left me for my best mate! Help! I just can’t see the point of carrying on, I’m on the edge!
Unhappy DnB Fan, 18, Scotland
Dr Sloan says: Hi Unhappy DnB Fan, I know that this is a very difficult time for you, please try to see the good points in your life. Do you have friends or family you are able to talk to? You have been awfully cheated, but you cannot let your Ex win and ruin your life. Perhaps you should try and use your interest in DnB to forge some new social contacts. You must also visit your doctor immediately. There is a huge stigma attached to depression and the use of anti depressants, but 1 in 3 people are suffering from depression right now! Your doctor may prescribe some Tricyclic Anti Depressants, which will treat your symptoms of depression and lift your mood so that you start to feel like the old you again. Don’t feel embarrassed and check out www.mind.org.uk for more info! Regards, L.A’s Finest, Mark Sloan M.D
Dear Dr Sloan and Aunt Rebecca, I am 15 and I really like this girl on UKB, she is perfect and always has time for me, whereas my family ignore me all the time. She is only 14 and we talk about how we are going to run away together all the time. I also want to sleep with her because I love her. Should we run away together?
In Love, 15, Newcastle
Aunt Rebecca says: Stop! Think about this carefully! You are 15, and have no means of supporting this girl or yourself. How would you eat? Where would you stay? Think of how upset your family would be, if you don’t think they would care, think of her family. Running away from a problem is never a good idea. If you really like this girl then you owe it to her to finish school, get a good job and make her happy. Try talking to your family, or if you feel you can’t face them, write your feelings down in a letter and give it to a trusted family member. I hope you work things out; it’s a lonely world out there on your own. Love Aunt Rebecca xx
Dr Sloan says: Listen son, I am sure you have the best intentions with this girl, but the fact of the matter is that she is 14 years of age. If you truly love this girl, then you can wait and just enjoy each others company. Be kids, go out for dates, have fun. Think about the consequences of sex at such a young age. She might get pregnant, how could you at 15 support her and a baby? Especially with an unstable home life! If you do decide that you both want to have sex, then you must use precautions against pregnancy and STI’s. You can visit your local sexual health clinic for free condoms and safe sex advice or you can visit www.playingsafely.co.uk for further advice. Good Luck and I hope you make the decision that is right for you both! Regards, M. Sloan M.D
You can send in your problems to Aunt Rebecca and Dr Mark via dj_cqb@hotmail.com ! Please be advised that due to popular demand they are unable to answer every email, but work very hard to help when they can! Confidentiality will be observed at all times.
