Focus on: DJ Aquari

DJ Name: Aquari

Location: Wiltshire/S.Wales

Genre: Liquid/Intelligent Drum and Bass

About You/History:

Aquari aka Ed Hodges fell in love with music at a very early age with artists of the early 90's. In 1994/5 He was given a tape by a friend of a Midsummer nights dream rave, and was hooked! Over they years my tapes had come and gone and cd collection growing rapidly he decided to give it a go for himself. He started with some cheap soundlab decks and a borrowed mixer and a few trance records, picking up beat matching pretty quickly he soon progressed to mixing different styles of music to the displeasure of his parents!

Aquari settled into the role as a Drum and Bass DJ in 2000, but still with his soundlabs holding him back his love for DJing faltered and he found other indulgences (Clubs and Drugs!) that took up his time and money.

Everything changed when he went to uni and got out of the small country town that had been strangling his creativity. He met another DJ, Tonic, who rekindled his passion for DJing. And with that itch needing a scratch he saved and bought a set of technics 1210's, from that moment Aquari has never looked back!

He now is a resident on UK BASS RADIO 7-8pm Mondays Be sure to check it out...

Experience/Clubs: Mainly parties, always on the look for gigs

Influences: Blues/Jazz, Oldskool, DJ Tonic, LTJ and others, too many to name!

Ambitions: To help to cure cancer, having fun on the way

Ask the Dj…
This month Drexyl asks:
“I want to start buying records online, but I don’t know the best sites to use.
Can u tell me which ones you use and why?”

Dj Fat Barry says:
“The thing with online stores is that u have so much of a selection right from your very own home. I personally use 3 sites currently and subscribe to their Newsletter so that I know when their new releases are out. But it is like most
high street stores, some will have tunes that others don’t so you will need to look at each shop in turn. Especially, if you want that new release or promo. My current 3 sites are Redeye Records, Kaizen Records and Hard To Find Records. I hope this helps.”

If you have any questions you want answers to then email the address at the bottom and we’ll try to help you out.

Focus on: Dj Sparkee
DJ SparkEE started getting into the hardcore, break beat and jungle scene back in 1994. Having bought his first pair of decks (soundlabdlp3's) off a mate sparkee got practicing devoting much of his time mixing bigbeat, break beat to jungle, upgrading his decks to Gemini’s pt2000's then to the industries favourite technic 12.00's.

By 1997 sparkee was running free parties up n down the coast playing at community centres and local outdoor raves getting inspired by dj's such as krome and time, grooverider, hype, Andy c, mampi swift and many more which took sparkee to the large scale raves like slammin, skelter, united dance and others across the country experiencing that atmosphere that drum and bass creates got sparkee hooked and instantly knew where he wanted to see himself. Late 2000 Sparkee started playing in clubs in Portsmouth/Southsea for promoters such as Vurt and Future dark technologies getting the name heard while starting to build his profile sparkee got introduced to the production so he went to college studying music technology to venture into the production side of the industry.

Sparkee's sets are mainly up front drum and bass bringing a constant supply of fresh and exclusive tunes to any rave and also has been known for his jungle selection. July 01 he joined London Live And Direct running two hour solo slots firstly fortnightly then weekly teaming up with DJ Catch running the 'Catch and Sparkee show' spreading the word every Tuesday evenings. Carried the set for just over 3 years at live and direct which had been a big help with promotion world-wide as well as UK getting to work with L.L.A.D and local south London artists on the circuit making contacts and constantly networking. You can check sparkee playing on radio's such as ukbass, ukrumble, barebass, qualitybeats and various stations every week across the uk and having performed for promoters such as Vurt, Jungleravers, Redeyecorp, Breakin science and playing in clubs such as ministry of sound, coronet, mass , se1 and many others has highlighted sparkee as one to watch for .
