No Rest For the Wicked ‘The Uk’s only night dedicated to live Drum and Bass and Breakbeat bands’ returns once again with another shit hot line up in our new venue of Cargo. This month we welcome back two old favourites fresh off the summer festival circuit, Dead Silence Syndicate and Step 13.

Dead Silence Syndicate have just returned from a busy summer which included a French tour to promote their latest releases the fabulous ‘Card Shark’ and ‘Suicide Bomber’. They have built up a strong following on the post-millennial underground rave circuit representing the harder end of the growing live drum n bass scene in the UK.
DSS are indeed a heavy-duty proposition, they take the gnarlier end of drum + bass, throw in a smidgeon of electro, some cello, add furiously spat lyrics and fuse the whole lot together, all totally live. The end result ? Impossible to define, maybe, but comparisons with The Prodigy, The Streets and Johnny Rotten have been made, and that’s hardly a bad thing!

' Dead Silence, read blistering, eardrum-perforating Drum 'n' Bass thrashed on real live instruments by a band who make Red Snapper sound like Craig David by comparison. Bass-heavy, brooding, bombastic and raw as botulism'

Step 13 have spent the summer recording and playing festivals around the UK preparing for their first release ‘Crowded Room’ which will be out through Broc’n’roll records in the late Autumn.
The band was formed from a group of four disillusioned DJs and producers in 2001. Sick of the DJ fever of the late nineties and full of post millennium apathy they formed a band in search of fresh vibes and a new way of taking their music to the next level. The following five years have seen them experiment with different lineups, people have come and gone but the core have remained and forged the ‘Broc’n’Roll’ sound that you hear today, leftfield Drum and Bass with bite !

‘What differentiates Step 13 from most other bands around is the way they manipulate the mood of the crowd like the very best DJs. They grab your attention and lift you up with their epic opener, space you out with laid-back grooves, then get everyone jumping around with infectious raggamuffin exuberance, before bringing the place to a breathless, sweaty climax with full-on, hard-hitting mash-up music’
