I've been producing music for about nine months. My musical experience came from performing as a drummer and percussionist for eight years of my life. I turned to electronic music because I felt that I needed more creativity. I started listening to more electronic music, and Drum & Bass changed my life. I'm currently studying Music Technology, but most of what I already know comes from experimenting with freeware from the internet. I've learned a lot about the basics of producing music, but I would like to start learning more about sound creation, Drum & Bass relies mostly on synthesized sounds. I'm interested to know how to get creative with the bass. I'm currently using FL Studio to experiment with until I get my studio gear. Does anyone know of any tutorials that might help me?

Cheers!

most sub basses are either tri waves , tri waves backed up with some square, or square by itself, the classic sub sound is usually alwyas made from a tri wave tho, if ya want to learn to synthesize your own try a good vst synth like 'vember audio surge' cheap as chips but the best bassline synth going IMO, an to be honest mate fl studio sucks balls for anything like this again IMO tho Smile, another thing to think about is that you may come up with the best soundingsub for one track and think 'wow yeh if i save that as apreset i can just use it everytime i need a good sub bass' wrong, crerating subs is an artform in itself, making it settle into a mix etc tec, engineers spend fucking years fine tuning how to create 'THE PERFECT SUB'

anywhoo hope some of that hepls m8 Very Happy

Sub Bass's are sine waves. A sine is a fundamental tone and contains no real harmonics.

To create harmonics within a Sub :-

You could try distorting a sine a bit until you get the right harmonic content on it and then mixing back with a pure sine to get back the roundness back in the sound. You can get crazy results if you seriously Distort a sine then hi pass it and mix it back with the original or even reverse the phase on the distorted one and mix back with the original signal without hi passing it (which i am sure shouldn't work but does).

To create a wobble bass :-

two sines a semitone apart on a sub = self modulating bass chord. one of the sines overtakes the other is doubles the peak and then almost phases it out creating a modulation that takes as long as the gap between the two notes + it wobbles in a strange fashion. Also if you try the old wobblebass two sines business you can get good results if you add another two sines an octave above. i.e. c1 c*1 c2 c*2 there is only about an octave range that this works in though.
