ez ragman jets Very Happy .to be honest it was the one thing that has tested my patience over the years and that is a phat but crisp bass sound to play with and expand on!!! seemed to be bloody hard and i could never find 'that' sound i was lookin for!! there was always something not quite right with it.

for myself i use a combination of samples and subtractor. in the subtractor i either use pre set samples and then play with them or start from the 'init patch' and then take it from there. you can get a pretty nice low frequency bass using the init patch. what i tend to do alot of the time, either with samples in the nn19 or the subtractor is take the high frequencies out using the filter frequency and putting the mode on either 24 or 12 on the filter.

to be honest i cant get the sound i am llookin for and i seem to lack crisp basses that kick in straight away, so i can make more complex riffs although this week end have managed to create a dirty bass sound that i'm actually pretty happy with!! to be honest i've found reason awsome for making kinda long drawn out bass but limited for quick stabby basses. i seem to be getting closer to the 'sound' i wanna create so i should imagine more playing around will produce the desired result Very Happy

Hello Kalaish. Thanks for your words about the G button issue. I love them!!! (do you remember??)

Now, and changing the subject, i think that the "bass question" is one of those issues that we develop with time. When we listen some Drum n Bass masters, sometimes the melody of the bass isn`t too much complicated.....but sounds powerfull, clean, strong and is able to touch our hearts.
Its amazing how they doo it...motherfuckers....(.LOL i am kidding they are the teachears ), and on the other side is frustrating for "fresh" producers like me and maybe like you. ( I am trying to produce it since 3 years ago ).
Now my opnion
For shure....the material/hardware that we (creators) have is truly important.
Then i thing its the quality of the soundbank that you have, then how we mix and make interaction between the elements that we have...creativity. Exploring is maybe the most important thing, and like you said.." its necessary to pass too much hours, days years...to have that BASS that masters have. I think.....it is not so simple like sometimes seems. (but thats the joy off all the creative processes.
When you have more tips to share about basses...give a touch please.
Another question: do you know internet sites with good information about drum n bass production, or more specifically about Reason tips ?

i want to say to, that i am working on a own site, to have the links to show to you ( and to all ), some tunes that i made, that i wish a lot to have some feedback....!!!!! Creation is all about feedback..dont you think??? , if we dont show our ideias they will die...
Very Thankfull for the tips the tutorials and your words. Stay happy....Smile...Peace.

keep your bass mono for extra punch (plus that's how it's cut/pressed) raw 808 sub basslines are good starting area's ran through tubes and/or amp effects, put an eq before the tube/amp in the effects chain, tweaking the eq will greatly effect the outcome of the processed sound, at the end of the chain use an eq cut at 20hz and under, also feather out somewhere between 70 and 100hz to give the kicks room in the frequencies, anywhere you can hear the bass fighting for eq rights with other sounds, just feather that spot down on the bass to give room for everything else (because after the subz get processed by the effects it's got all kinds of frequencies flying all over the place. hence, you must tame the wild beast)

A touch of chorus on the mono bass gives it a bit of width....but only a touch Cool

As Reafer says u need room for the kick and for dnb really u need bass sounds that have no attack and no release in most riffs.....so u can punch them in and out in the riff without them all sliding over each other into a mess. Takes a bit of messin with the sounds but often using samples or exporting a synth sound then tweaking it in the sampler (maybe start the sample a lil later so the sound comes in rather than grows, or just reshape the envelope in other applications).

Like Kalaish says a lot of the time in Reason the bass sounds are long and grow too slowly...however starting with 808bass is usually a good start as Reafer says.

Personally I recommend also looking at other soft synths and gettin some badass sample banks.

One can definitely make badass bass in Reason, but I think that it is perhaps not Reason's Forte. Havin said that I am gettin into makin some nice phat sounds in Reason lol - it is an awesome program to create sounds with.

Myself I am only just gettin all this - been at it 2.5yrs now and finally hearin the sound I want in my last couple efforts and whats commin.

Make sure that the bass is nice and round and p-h-a-t but not swampin the sound of the trak...

Well its prolly bullshit but theres my tuppence worth.
