Questions for Producers??

I've been spinnin' for about 8 months now and I kinda' wanna throw my hand in some productions. I don't really have any production equipment but I have been workin' with FruityLoops for about two weeks now. I done some OK tracks but I kinda feel limited. I'm really tryin' to see what's the best fit for producin' DnB, what Programs, equipment, etc.. I don't think I like FL very much. What do you guys thinks the best route to go? Any help or advice would be much appreciated!!

well expect half the people that reply to say something along the lines of "fruity loops is shite!"

i completely disagree wiv em tho i currently use Reason and various VSTs, export them from there and sequence in FL6, its fast and easy to use.. and i havent found anything on Cubase or Reason that I cant do somehow in FL

Get a copy of Reason tho for sure, it may look a little daunting at first but its simpler than it looks, and very powerful. But then I use mostly VSTs in it which i can also use in FL6 if i wanted to.

I Totally Agree with Terraformer, Reason is 1 of the best,alltrough Fruity Loops 6 is very easy to pick up and use,but don't be put off by reason it looks hard as but a lot more possible addons to link up 2 it ,alltrough me not used FL much,& i ant even used q-bass,how about Ableton. This was probally no help what so ever.

I agreee. I personally use FL6 and a host ofVST plugin synths ect. I used to use reson alot and its tought me a great deal about music production. i dont use it anymore becuase I found FL6 had far more scope. to be honest i'm looking to upgrade toCubase becuase there are some annoying wee lil things with FL6 though although i here the uopgrade is loads better.

i guess what i'm saying is that Reason as awsome and a good means to learn alot about music production, FL6 is great and enables you to complete in theory a professional sounding piece of work. I think Cuibase has advantages over Fl6 although is far less user friendly than FL6

Agree with the lot of you, but personally to me its al about the V S FUCKIN T I'S! at the mo anyway lol. You get ya bog standard instruments with any form of VST sequencer, just go on the hunt for VST'I's that you can plug into whatever sequencer your using at the time. At the moment I'm In FUCKIN LOVE with my hypersonic dongle and my Xphraze.
Just experiment with different types of VST and VstI's untill your comfertable. Theres always a learning kurb with any type of software, I been doin it 3 years and i still aint got a klu haha. That limitation you feel is proberbely due to lack of instruments, ( cant quiete get the snap of that drum or sound of that gritty bass). like i said find some decent vsti's.
Personally i dont feel limited with any of the software I use, and excuse the cheese but the limits are the endless tides of your imagination.

dunno about Fruity loops bein shite! the old dog still has its uses.. lol

but the way to go is either Reason 3, or Cubase SX mate..

I mainly use Reason to create my sounds and that, then put em together and mix the track down in either Cubase SX or Logic 5.5

I still use fruity now for timing small vocals and a few other things.. (not much tho to be honest)

but yea..

Reason is the way to go.. the sounds are amazing and theres plenty to tweak to make it original.

you need a professional DAW (digital audio workstation) like Cubase,Sonar,Logic,Protools,Nuendo...etc.

in my humble opinion FL is not a pro front end app.
it does make a decent tool and ive heard some great sounding stuff from it but like Reason...I could never use it stand alone.

good drum & bass thrives on customization and engineering and the only way is to have a good canvas.

Mate theres no such thing as a 'software best for dnb' as alot of ya are sayin they like blah blah, and others like blah blah..

I personally didnt like Fruity Loops, and Reason was really easy to pick up and learn things on but got plastic really fast, not tried Logic but a mate uses it and i seen him on it and it looks just the same as Cubase pretty much.

Im using Cubase myself and its fine does the job, but all softwares do the same thing, just different ppl get on better with different apps.

Id say start on Reason till ya get the hang of things, then try out 'Cubase, Fruity Loops, Logic, Ableton' and you'll see if ya wanna change to something else or stick with Reason.
