I've only been puttin' down quality mixes for like 3 months now, only been doin' this for about 6. I used to just mix whatever tracks were in front of me. Now, I try and get the tracks I really want to play, but in no particular order. I just have a question for the more experienced dj's. Do you guys know exactly what your goin' to play and in a certain order or do you just play them how you feel them. This might be a stupid question but I'm just tryin' to improve with every mix I lay down! Thanks for the help!!

I have an idea on what tunes i wanna mix, it really depends what kinda mix you do tho, if its a live show I just pick the tunes out at random, whatever i'm feelin at the time, but studio mixes are more planned, well at least the tunes i wanna use are in an order.

I always plan 2 or 3 tunes ahead but never plan whole sets. It doesn't really work if you play tunes completely randomly I don't think because some just don't go together too well and the mix sounds horrible. When you get new tunes, have a good play with them and experiment a bit - when you find two tunes that work together then remember them.

It took me quite a while to get it right (pffft, I hope) - so just keep practising - and remember to listen to ukbass all the time for ideas Wink

I used to plan whole sets but it took a coujple of weeks by which time I'd bought more tunes and want to incorporate them as well. Now I have some mixes of tunes that sound really good together and freestyle the rest.
