I've been mixin' now for about 5-6 months and kinda wanna dabble in the production side of things. I know I'm probably not ready but why not get started. It's never too early, I guess. The main reason I wanna try this is that I'm kinda tired of mixin' other peoples tracks. It doesn't feel as original. When I mix some of my friends tracks, I just like that I know, no other person is layin' down the same tracks. I don't know, call me weird! Anyways, I'm kinda stuck on what equipment I should look in to gettin. Drum Machine? Sampler? Keyboard? etc... It def. has to be something that isn't too complicated. Any help regarding this matter would be much appreciated. Thanks,

Worlz

Nothin wierd about any of that. Sounds like you just enjoy your music, and want to develop your sound and your individuality. Very Happy

I personally would suggest starting with a bit of software like Reason or Fruity Loops, since you will be able to do most with that for the amount you lay out. Something like a drum machine would be a great bit of hardware, but all you can do on it is drums....unless you have the money to fork out for other bits, you will be stuck with drum tracks alone till you can get other bits. With Reason or FL you have an interface that alows you to make complete tunes, and you obviously need to start sourcing and collecting samples to build your tunes with.

Personally I used reason for years, its fantastic, but restrictive unless you use it rewired into cubase. It gets restrictive because you can't use plug ins in it. But as a standalone its the best place to start coz you can get by without plugins. However in time as you develop you will want to add other software into the mix, this is where something like FL (or even cubase) is great coz u can plug in all the softsynths and fx plugins and it is not limited by the range contained within the software. I mainly use FL6, a heap of plugins and cubase SX these days, plus a few bits of hardware.

Hope that helps Wink

Good luck

c-j,

Man, thanks for the help. I will look into those software programs and see what's gonna best suit me in the future. You're right, I love this sh@%!! (DnB). When I get a set up, I'll have to let you listen in on some tracks. Again, Much love.
