Yesyes, my friends. Reckon I'm just a little excited to be seeing results from a drawn-out experiment that turned out to be way more involved than it looked just reading how holograms happen on Wikipedia....

Appropriate lasers and beam splits and focusing optics and first-surface mirrors and finally tracking down green-sensitive plates that ultimately may or may not work with my particular (affordable)laser... what a trip.... Takes some doing, but YOU CAN MAKE THESE THINGS AT HOME!

Do note: Professional holograms shot in a pricey studio look better than what you can make out in this video, and that ain't a big suprise - I coddle each of these to the best of my ability, but the pros still have tricks and gear I don't, but I'm learning and they should start coming out brighter. Metals without a bright shine seem to come out best so far.

I'll keep posting successful exposures in the future if anyone seems to care. I'll also happily field questions if holograms pique the curiosity....

Anyways, tell me what you thought of what you could see from my shitty video Very Happy

Thanks brother Very Happy
No joke that those things are a bitch to make....

But I've kept my brain to the grindstone and figgered it out. Hopefully soon I will have my setup dialed-in enough that custom holograms can bacome a reality, and soon I shall say Hear Ye Hear Ye - Pack your hologrammable object and a return shipping label into a small box with some foam peanuts and send it to me, and I shall immortalize it in 3D (cheap or free - I'll only charge for really professional work)

If you think holograms are neat like I do, keep an eye on this thread and I will try to keep new exposures posted. New plates and developer are due tomorrow, and hopefully I'll be into full swing again at that point.

Some are.
Truth is, you can make a hologram with a single beam (they make kits for kids), but the quality will be low (weird colors and usually only 2" deep).
By doing the split beam arrangement that I did, I was able to make a much deeper image than you get from a quick set-up. It is not quite easy to get a split beam deal working, but I manage with an affordable laser and scratch-and-dent optics - so, if I can do it at home (thick feller myself) with budget optics and a $5 sandbox, then I say yes, you can make these at home Very Happy
