No rest for the wicked is a breath of fresh air for clubbers and live music fans alike. This new monthly night for London kicks off on February 8th and will feature some of the finest up and coming bands on the drum and bass and breakbeat scene.
Live drum and bass has quickly become a genre of its own, encompassing many different styles of music. Changing musical tastes, the downturn in dj based music and the subsequent resurgence in rock and guitar based music have lead to the emergence of the most exciting, explosive, fluid style of music to hit the stage in the last ten years. A style that can reach out to rockers, ravers, indie kids and punks alike in a way that other genres haven’t been able to.
NRFTW aims to build on the recent success of bands like London Elektricity, to be the first regular night of it’s kind strictly dedicated to live dnb bands. We aim to bring together this currently fragmented, yet blossoming underground scene and showcase it to the world.
NRFTW will be the night that propels this new junglist movement to the next level.
The launch party on February 8th will feature two of London’s hottest live dnb bands. Both hotly tipped by Knowledge Magazine as ‘ones to watch’, NRFTW presents to you Dead Silence Syndicate and Step 13.
Dead Silence
Spawned off the back of an ageing London rave scene, The Deadsilence Syndicate band have built up a strong underground following, playing clubs and squats from London to Italy every weekend, including the legendary Glastonbury Festival and The London Astoria. The band have performed along side such heavy weights as Andy C, Pendulum, Shut up & Dance and Goldie to name but a few, and have featured in knowledge magazine on more than one occasion.
The DSS Band are indeed a heavy-duty proposition, taking the gnarlier end of drum + bass, throwing in a smidgeon of electro, some cello, then adding furiously spat lyrics, the end result is a D&B powered punk fuelled demolition derby, not for the faint hearted.
'Dead Silence are a six-piece crew featuring a mix of musicians, producers and MCs. Their performance is tight - the beats are precise and the rhymes hard and on point'
- Knowledge Magazine
Step 13
Step 13 was originally a Dj collective and record label formed by four producers, Itchi, Mentor, Bustawidemove and Agent Orange to release their work. Formed in 1996 they released several singles, most notably Itchi’s acclaimed single ‘July’ which received glowing praise from the press including being voted single of the month in Ministry & DJ magazines. In 2003 they decided to go back to their roots as live musicians and the band was formed. They played their first gig to a rapturous full house at Cargo and since then have been tearing up the country with their own hybrid brand of dnb which they call ‘Broc’n’Roll’, beauty versus the beast.
‘Step 13 are an all-consuming tidal wave of percussion and melody…. influences from around the globe come at you thick and fast, creating a heady stew that feeds both the mind and feet.’
