Influx UK aka Gavin Price Gavin was born and raised in East London. He had his first experience of production at the age of 9, where for a school play he made a 'dub version' of the Pink Floyd song 'Brick In The Wall' by cutting out the vocals and recording it to tape. By 15 he was learning to mix and scratch and became an avid collector of US Hip Hop, and later Chicago House when it came to the UK from the USA. Gavin developed a love for the beats and breaks after going to many of the raves in and around London during the late 80's, such as Genesis and Raindance, with artists such as Fingers Inc., Farley Jackmaster Funk, Frankie Bones and Run DMC being major influences. He made hip hop tracks around 87/88 with some local MC's, and they found themselves on Dave Pearce's radio show on Radio London (before his trance days) doing a live performance.
Influx UK first appeared on the drum & bass scene as one half of the production duo Influx Datum. It was as part of the international duo Influx Datum that Gavin production skills got picked up on by DJ SS who asked Gavin and Marco to join the label. After a number of tracks on the Jazz & Bass series on Formation sister label New Identity as well as appearing alongside Sappo on ‘Decade of Breaks’ series the pair where ready for their first full Formation release ‘Back For More’ which has became a true drum and bass anthem and a firm favourite of many A-list DJ's, not to mention the occasional daytime BBC Radio 1 jock! Putting the Influx Datum project on hold for a while Gavin has taken time out over the past two years to concentrate on his solo work as Influx UK. His first release as Influx UK ‘Sing Out appeared on Formations 100th release alongside the labels head honcho DJ SS. Take My breaking away with ‘Ghost People / Ghetto Messiah’ (FORM12109).
But now Gavin is breaking even more barriers by teaming up with DJ SS. Influx UK has became the proud new co-owner of New Identity Recordings. But as you all know INFLUX is one of formation oldest friends. With SS and INFLUX teamed up the possibilities are endless. So keep your eyes open to see what great things that will happen from the pair of them.
Here are a few things that Influx has been involved in over the past few years:
2002 Influx Datum Back For More / Alright
2002 DJ SS Like A Bird (Influx Datum Remix)
2002 Influx Datum Vintage
2002 High Contrast Music Is Everything (Influx Datum UK Remix)
2003 Influx UK/Datum Take My / Back For More (High Contrast remix)
2004 Influx UK Ghost People (Take My 2004) / Ghetto Messiah
2005 Influx UK 2 Million and Rising
