I personally rarely edit or delete comments unless I can see that it is going to get out of control (or someones advertising another radio station!). Moderation needs to be done, but in moderation. It's your choice, but I still think that editing offensive comments is counter productive. 
For example, would we still think the same of Hitler today, if all record of his speeches, etc, had been edited to make them less offensive to us? Is it not better that we see his (or anyone elses) statements in full so such people are laid bare? If posts are to be edited, though, then I fully agree that the editor needs to put a statement saying why the post was edited, eg: "RACIST COMMENTS REMOVED", and enough left for people to make out the gist of what was originally said. |

If that is what was deleted then I must say, that it completely ridiculous. I'd have expected the person to at least contact me privately to say it was them, even if they didn't have the bollocks to stand up and say in public. Chill, Drex, that wasn't what I meant at all... What I meant was that you SHOULD be able to speak your mind, and even IF a post IS offensive (in general Drex, not yours..) it is far better for us to see it and judge for ourselves, rather than have it censored like that. I tried to make it clear that I wasn't on about you- I was giving a worst-case scenario of someone being a complete twat, and I was saying that even in such a case the post shouldn't really be edited, never mind editing the posts of good people such as yourself. I didn't think that you or anyone else on here was being a cunt, but the point is that by editing your post, the anonymous mod has made the situation worse, as we can't see what you actually put and some people may assume the worst. EVERYONE has the right to an opinion, and the right to voice that opinion- that's the absolute foundation of a free society and we should defend that.  |
