Howdy Elric
What you're seeing in that image is a piece of coral.
The equipment? Haha - I reckon I'm breaking some of the industry paradigms in that I make holograms without all the expensive shit (2.5 ton steel isolation table on air-suspension legs, $20,000 laser, high-grade optics, etc)...
The only high-dollar expense you can't get around (and I tried...for the longest time) is a single-longitudinal-mode laser, but some diligent web hunting brought me across a great deal...
The rest of my setup is strictly bottom-shelf - all my optics are salvaged from cameras and copiers, and I shoot in a bigass Tupperware sandbox on top of two Dollar Store swim rings (the sand and inner tubes are for vibration isolation - even at 3 AM in a quiet neighborhood, the earth is alive with little vibrations that spoil a hologram)
It all started as a question, became fascination, turned into a project, and now I guess is a hobby. I get the feeling there might be money in it, though... Everyone who sees my work asks me if I sell them... Eeeerm... Maybe someday?
