hey guys.
im totally new to the prices on gear, and i was sorta hoping you could give me some advice.
im thinking of buying my first two decks and a mixer aswell + what is needed.
as far as i have heard everybody tells technics is the brand to go for in decks, especially the 1210's. thats atleast what i have been able do understand from ppl in here.
so how much is a pair of 2nd hand 1210's worth? i know its difficult to say, sice it depends on the condition of the decks, but an approximate answer would be cool
also is there any other affordable decks you cold recommend, and also any mixer recommendations.
in general i would appriciate a sorta beginners guide in gear, and what to look for, if any of you would be so kind. It's a bit hard to get into, when you basically, know nothing at all :S
big up the ukbass crew
cheers

I'd definately recommend 1210s over any other deck for a couple of reasons; In my opinion they are nicer to mix on than other decks and secondly, most clubs and bars use them, so it's better to get used to decks that are most commonly used - it might seem strange to anyone just starting out that there is a difference between different makes of decks but there is.
However, if you are just starting out it might be worth considering cheaper decks as they are harder to mix on (if you can mix well on relatively shit decks, you can mix better on good ones) - don't get belt drives though, look for direct drive. I started off with Citronic PD1s and they were great for a few years and have had at least 3 ownsers that I know of since then and I think are still going strong.
The first mixer I had was a Gemini PS626 - pretty much the most common mixer you will find in bedrooms, everyone seems to have had one at some point lol.
Don't get caught up in paying high prices for cables, theres just no point. Average priced cables often out-perform expensive "magic" ones - when it comes to amazing cables, it's all purely marketing bull shit.

Ez M8. I agree with Overload. Speaking as someone who has had many turntables over a 16yr period, i definately recommend new 1210MK5G if you have the money to spend.
However, you can pick up 2nd hand 1210s from ebay. As long as they are not too old you can pick up a bargain. I wud pay 250 per deck depending on age. The thing with 1210s is that they can be serviced too. This will prolong your decks or provide a new lease of life for a 2nd hand pair.
As for a mixer. The choice will depend on what you need your mixer to do. I think that most DJs change their mixers every now and then until they find their ideal one. So, don't pay too much for your first one as their may be features you wud like to upgrade to later on.
I hope this helps.

nice with some input guys, appreciated!
well i don't really have that much to spend, since im studying and the budget is a wee bit tight, so a new set of decks will be a bit too expensive i believe, but i am lookin in the 2nd hand department, and scanning the newspapers etc.
if more wants to share oppinions and tips please do
cheers

Gav and CQB are right 1210's are the way to go i got mine for 300 quid for the pair from a friend of a friend, but u can buy 1210 decks by them selfs one by one from ebay from 100 - 200 per deck, i managed to get one off there for 150 quid for 1 deck, but then got offered a pair for 300 got them sold the deck to some one for 150 got my cash back u allways gonna get your money back if they still work in good order u could try numark decks they are much cheaper i can service decks my self (pitch's) very easy to set the pitch's, but any way i mixed on a few decks and stantons are NASTY and gemini decks are also NASTY u could try a pair of 1200's techics, they are just as good as 1210's, to start off with a mixer get a cheap numark or some thing as long as it has bass and treble on each channel its all good, good to have mid range as well but thats probley for later on when u wanna get more into the eq'ing and sound effect mixer's
hope that helps

That's because they are the same
1200s are just in silver instead of black. When I went to get mine I wanted 1200s but they only had one left ended up gettin 1210s.
Thats another good point though, if you get second hand 1200/1210s, they are going to keep their value and you'll most likely get your money back easily if you decide to sell them.
