I think people need to post on the Telegraph website comments, there are a small number of anti-choice people trying to hijack it. They're probably working for Labour.

Classic stoner paranoia... Apparently the independent panel researching the classification say that cannabis should remain class C; http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7327702.stm "If the government went ahead and reclassified cannabis to class B, ministers would be rejecting the findings of the council's panel of 23 drug experts - which has never happened before on a decision about drug classification." To add my 2 pence to the argument- I believe that all drugs should be legalised; as this policy would take the ever-existent drug market out of the hands of criminals and put it into the legitimate economy. Drug use would be safer for users, the treasury would be boosted considerably by the extra taxation generated, and the law would recognise all of our rights to put into our own bodies what we see fit. Overall drug consumption would most probably not rise, as most people who would wish to take drugs already do so. Crime would fall, including non-drug crime, as addicts of hard drugs would no longer need to steal to fund their underground habit, and organised crime would lose many billions of pounds of funding which currently pours into other nefarious activities. There would be no black market for armed drug barons to fight over, and the overall attitude of and to the police would be more productive nationally, as a vast number of otherwise law-abiding people would no longer be seen as (or see themselves as) criminals. As an aside, did you know that cannabis use is already worth £11,000,000,000 every year to the UK economy? http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2003/feb/02/drugsandalcohol.bensummerskill That was in 2003, it is doubtless worth much more now. |

The problem is, they won't make more money from changing the law - they're just wasting it. _________________
